Copito
de Nieve (Últimas
fotos)
fotografié a "Copito" regularmente.
Llegó a Barcelona

The
day-to-day life of the world's only albino gorilla.
I visited and photographed "Copito" regularly
over a five-month period. Often I'd take him one of
my son's toys, which he'd gaze at attentively. A yo-yo
went over particularly well. Sometimes his caregiver
would let me pat him through the bars and give him a
feeding bottle full of a vitaminised drink. Copito began
to recognise my voice, and one day tried to frighten
me by running towards me and hitting the grid that separated
us with a loud thud. Copito is very curious. He loves
to be hosed down with water. And even though he knows
he's a star, he often gets bored and turns his back
on the tourists who come to see him. He arrived in Barcelona
42 years ago from the Guinean jungle and today is a
living symbol of his adopted city.
